Medicare Part D Drug Benefit - Low Income Subsidies

Friday June 10, 2005
Medicare has recently started mailing out notices to people who they have deemed eligible for subsidies that will help them pay for the new Part D prescription drug benefit. These notices tell people more about the benefits they will receive starting in January 2006. For more information, visit the Medicare low-income subsidy website. If you do not receive a letter, but believe that you may qualify as a low-income beneficiary entitled to a subsidy, contact your local Social Security office or your state Medicaid office to apply. The worst that can happen is that they don't give you a subsidy! And if you do get a subsidy, it will make paying for your medications significantly easier. So when in doubt, fill it out.
