Error in 2006 Medicare & You Handbooks

Wednesday October 19, 2005
After mailing out millions of their new 2006 Medicare & You handbooks, Medicare discovered that the handbooks contained an error pertaining to the new Part D prescription drug benefit. The handbooks claimed that ALL drug plans would charge no premium to certain qualified low-income beneficiaries, but that is not true. As explained in this article, only 40% of all drug plans allow low-income beneficiaries to enroll without paying a premium. Corrected versions of the area-specific Medicare & You handbooks are available at this site.
