Medicare/Medicaid Dual Eligibles Auto-Enrolled in Part D plans

Friday November 11, 2005
Some Medicare beneficiaries also qualify for Medicaid coverage and currently receive their prescription drugs through the Medicaid program. All that will change on January 1, 2006 - people who are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid will be automatically enrolled in a Medicare Part D prescription drug program, and disenrolled from their Medicaid drug coverage.

Medicare has sent letters to Medicare/Medicaid dual eligibles telling them which Part D drug plan they have been automatically enrolled in. Dual eligibles do have the right to switch plans if they do not like the one they have been automatically assigned to. Call 1-800-MEDICARE or visit the Medicare website for more information.
