Most ER Patients Have Health Insurance

Friday April 7, 2006
Believe it or not, most people who visit the ER have health insurance. This is surprising news for experts who believed that improving access to health insurance would reduce overcrowding in emergency rooms.

According to a study published by the American College of Emergency Physicians84% of emergency room patients have insurance, and 81% have a primary care physician outside of the hospital. They use the emergency room because they are unable to get in to see their regular doctor or are waiting for an available hospital bed.
