Americans Are Falling Through the Cracks in Our Health Care System
Wednesday April 12, 2006
This article in the L.A. Times features real-life case studies that show how hard it is to get and keep health insurance in the U.S. Some people take their chances and pray they don’t get sick, while others visit free care clinics or try to get covered on government-sponsored safety net programs like Medicare or Medicaid. Some people hold off on getting divorced so that their spouse won’t lose health coverage, or take jobs they don’t want or need just to get health insurance. This article doesn’t have all the answers, but it does a good job of demonstrating the great lengths that Americans go to just to finance their health care.
