Sleep Deprivation and Disorders Linked to Health Problems
Thursday April 20, 2006
The Institute of Medicine released a new report which connects sleep disorders to serious health problems, including high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack, and stroke. 50-70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders.
Sleep deprivation is also costly, for obvious reasons - people who do not get enough sleep are more likely to be involved in dangerous accidents because they are not alert enough to prevent them. All of this adds to the bottom line for employers offering job-based health coverage.
