U of Michigan Diabetes Drug Program Seeks to Promote Preventative Care
Thursday April 27, 2006
The University of Michigan is trying to prove that spending on preventative care will actually save money in the long run. They have established a two-year pilot program which will offer employees and dependents with diabetes free or discounted medication for their condition. Generics will be free, while brand name drugs will be 25-50% off. If this program is successful at saving money and improving health outcomes, the University may expand it to cover other conditions, like heart disease.
