Medicare Reports That It Has Sanctioned Part D Plans Over 1,000 Times
Wednesday July 5, 2006
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reports that it has issued over 1,000 sanctions to Part D plans in order to improve customer service. The most common sanction is a warning letter, but more serious sanctions - including requests for business improvement plans and temporary marketing restrictions - have been issued to plans which have not complied with Medicare guidelines. Medicare says that they may need to terminate one plan, America's Health Choice of Florida, for repeated failures to follow the guidelines. Medicare hopes that these sanctions help improve service for all beneficiaries participating in the Medicare Part D prescription drug program.
