Your Insurance May Cover More Than You Think It Does

Thursday August 10, 2006
In most cases, people are unpleasantly surprised by their health insurance coverage. However, some cancer patients were pleasantly surprised to discover that their insurance policy covered more than they thought it would. United Healthcare includes coverage for a special program called "Cancer Resources" in all of its job-based plans. Cancer Resources will pay for cancer treatment at 21 first-class cancer centers around the country, including airfare and travel expenses if the cancer center is more than 50 miles away.

However, the Cancer Resources program is not well publicized, so many United Healthcare enrollees have no idea it even exists. If you are covered under United Healthcare through a job-based plan and have cancer, be sure to contact your plan's toll-free customer service number or visit myUHC.com to find out if you can take advantage of this benefit.
