Will the $4 Generic Program Really Help Consumers?
Monday November 27, 2006
Wal-Mart's $4 generic program has generated a lot of excitement, and other companies are offering similar savings on generic prescription drugs. However, according to the Boston Globe, critics say that most consumers will not save a significant amount of money by using the program because it excludes all brand names and many generics. Also, experts believe that many consumers with insurance coverage for prescription drugs will continue to buy their medicine at more conveniently located pharmacies, even if the price is a bit higher.
Nevertheless, many consumers are taking advantage of the savings the program offers, even if it is minimal. For those without drug coverage, every dollar counts.
