Americans Want Government To Guarantee Health Coverage

Tuesday March 13, 2007
According to the New York Times, Americans consider health care to be our nation's #1 domestic policy issue, and are looking to the government to ensure it is available to all Americans.

A recent poll shows that Americans are increasingly willing to help fund efforts to guarantee access to health coverage, indicating that they would give up future tax cuts and even pay as much as $500 per year in taxes in order to help with the cost of expanding health care.

However, Americans disagree on whether this universal health coverage should be government-operated, or whether we should rely on private insurers and government subsidies to piece coverage together.
