Small Business Health Legislation Resurrected
Friday March 16, 2007
According to CNN.com, Senator Enzi (R-Wy.) has announced his intentions to reintroduce legislation this year which would allow small businesses to purchase health plans across state lines. This legislation raised quite a furor in the 109th Congress, but did not receive sufficient votes in the Senate. This legislation may face stern opposition from nonprofit patient advocacy groups and state governments, as it would circumvent state consumer protection laws mandating coverage of certain benefits. Amendments which address this issue may make this proposal more palatable to all.
