New York Agrees To Allow Cigna To Rank Doctors

Saturday November 3, 2007
The New York Attorney General's Office recently came to an agreement with Cigna regarding the quality information the insurer planned to release to the public. The Attorney General's Office had concerns about physician and hospital ranking systems, and believed that the insurer would give higher scores to providers which charged less money in order to encourage members to seek out care at a lower cost.

According to the Hartford Courant, the agreement allows Cigna to release separate ratings on cost, quality, and a combination of the two. This will allow consumers access to accurate information which will allow them to obtain better value for their money.

A spokesperson at Aetna believes that their company will also reach an agreement with the Attorney General's Office soon.
