Senator Baucus Moves Forward With Health Plan
Wednesday November 12, 2008
Senator Baucus is not waiting for President-elect Obama to proceed with plans to reform the U.S. health care system. According to the New York Times, Baucus is moving forward with plans to ensure that all Americans have health insurance coverage. This plan goes further than Obama's proposal, which only guarantees coverage for children. It would create a national "health insurance exchange" where people can shop for both private and public health plans. Medicare and Medicaid would be expanded to cover more Americans. Additionally, employers would play a prominent role in the new plan, either by covering their employees or paying them to obtain coverage elsewhere.

Personally, I think our country will eventually need to turn away from employer-sponsored health insurance. It’s costly for the employers, and it really shouldn’t be their responsibility. The government needs to provide affordable health insurance options to the public, and then we need to be responsible for finding and purchasing our own policy.
