Medicare Limits Coverage of Bariatric Surgery

Reuters/Yahoo News reports that Medicare will limit coverage of bariatric surgery to only the most dangerously overweight individuals. Although a study earlier this year showed that weight loss surgery could improve the health of less overweight beneficiaries with type 2 diabetes, Medicare believes this evidence is insufficient to warrant the $15,000 - $35,000 price tag. If more evidence comes forth, Medicare may amend its coverage decision.
