If you're going to enroll in a health plan on your state's Obamacare health insurance exchange, you need to hurry if you want your coverage to start on January 1, 2014. The last day you can complete your enrollment and still have your health insurance coverage begin on January 1 is December 23. If you complete your enrollment on December 24, your coverage won't start until February 1, 2014.
If you tried in October but couldn't finish enrollment because you had trouble with the HealthCare.gov website, now is the time to try again or to call the exchange.
Just completing your enrollment isn't enough, though. In order to have health insurance coverage by January 1, you also have to make your first monthly premium payment by December 31. Although the Obama administration has asked insurers to accept partial payments for January premiums, there's no guarantee any particular insurance company will take less than the full January premium and still provide coverage.
Time is running out. Finish your enrollment by December 23. Pay your first month's premium by December 31. Have health insurance coverage on January 1, 2014.
