Capitation

Definition: A fixed per-person payment, made in advance by the insurance company to the healthcare provider. When an individual enrolls in an HMO, for example, the insurance company advances the healthcare provider a fixed amount of money for that individual's care, regardless of how many services that particular individual needs or utilizes.
