Question: Can I Use COBRA As A Dependent Even If The Covered Employee Does Not Elect It?
Answer: Yes. Each qualified COBRA beneficiary has an independent right to elect coverage. Thus, if you are currently covered as a dependent on someone else's job-based health plan, you are eligible for COBRA and can elect coverage regardless of what the covered employee does. Parents can elect COBRA on behalf of their children.
