My Right to Appeal an Insurance Decision

Question: Does the health reform law limit the way my health plan second guesses my doctor by denying claims or limiting my health care options?

Answer: YES! Starting in 2010, you have stronger rights to appeal decisions made by your health plan. After you have gone through a health insurer’s internal appeal process, all health plans are required to allow you an external appeal using reviewers who have no financial interest in the health plan and the outcome of the final decision.
