Health Reform FAQS - Answers to Your Questions About the Affordable Care Act Camille Tokerud

Question: I am pregnant and planning on nursing when I return to work. I read that employers must provide “reasonable break time” for nursing mothers. Is this true?

Answer: YES! According to the Affordable Care Act, your employer must provide you with reasonable break time and a private, non-bathroom place to express breast milk during the workday until your child’s first birthday.

All companies are covered by the law. However, employers with less than 50 workers do not have to comply if they show that meeting the terms of the rule would cause an undue financial hardship for the company.
