Americans Increasingly Unhappy With Health Care System
Friday October 20, 2006
A recent study conducted by USAToday, the Kaiser Family Foundation, and ABC News shows that Americans are growing increasingly unhappy with our health care system. 80% of poll respondents were particularly unhappy with the cost of health care in the U.S. However, they incorrectly identified the factors which drive health costs higher. For example, experts believe that the #1 reason why health care costs keep soaring is because of patient demand for the latest (and often most expensive) drugs, surgical procedures, and other health care innovations. Health care company profits and medical malpractice liability - two factors which Americans believe are the key culprits in rising health costs) barely make a dent in our nation's health care tab.
Americans are also becoming increasingly concerned with health care quality. While most people believe that they, personally, are receiving high quality health care, only 44% are satisfied with the overall level of quality available throughout our health care system.

if they dont have to provide health insurance then why can they take medical out of my check? I have two kids and could use that $4 or $5 to get my own insurance!!!!!
Employers are not required to provide health insurance to their employees, but they often do so as a benefit. You must enroll in the health insurance plan in order to get benefits or to have any amount deducted from your check. If you would like to disenroll, contact your Human Resources department.
However, I would first check and make sure that you can buy your own coverage for less than what your company offers. You do not want to disenroll from a job-based plan and then end up with coverage that costs 10 or more times what you are currently paying.
